Understanding Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence is the ability to notice, understand and manage your own feelings, and to sense what others are feeling. When you are aware of your emotions, you can choose how to act instead of reacting automatically. This helps you stay calm under pressure, solve problems better and build stronger relationships.
Try this simple habit today: when you notice a strong feeling, pause, take a slow breath and label the emotion – for example, “I feel frustrated because I’m rushed.” Then ask yourself what you need in that moment, whether it is a short break, a clear plan or a kind word to yourself. By practising this, you train your mind to respond with intention rather than impulse.
