Seeing Through Biases

Ever notice how your first impression sticks, even when new facts appear? That’s the anchoring bias at work, a mental shortcut that saves effort but can trap us in outdated ideas. We all carry a toolbox of mental models - lenses like 'first-principles' or 'feedback loops' - that help us simplify the world. When we recognise which lens we’re looking through, we can choose a clearer one. Next time you face a decision, pause and ask: which bias might be pulling my thoughts? Then deliberately flip the model - view the problem from its opposite angle. You’ll often discover a solution you missed.

Actionable Takeaway

Write down one decision today, note the bias you suspect, and re-frame it using an opposite model.
