In a dramatic swing, the Bersatu Kangar chief and ninety branch leaders have walked out of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to join the opposition platform Wawasan. The exodus, led by Deputy Chief Mohammad Faisol Abd Rahman, includes the majority of the division’s committee, the Armada, Srikandi and Srikandi Muda groups, and a host of local branch chiefs. Announced straight away after a similar defection in Padang Besar, the move signals deepening fractures within Bersatu’s northern ranks and could reshape the balance of power ahead of upcoming state elections.
