KDM Breaks Away, Forms Borneo Bloc

The Kadazandusun Murut (KDM) party has pulled its support from the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition, saying it needs to rebuild grassroots confidence before the upcoming general election. By stepping back, KDM signals dissatisfaction with GRS's current direction and is positioning itself to spearhead a new regional alliance – the so‑called ‘Borneo Bloc’ – together with Sabah parties. This manoeuvre aims to capture disillusioned voters, strengthen KDM’s bargaining power and reshape the political map of East Malaysia ahead of a crucial electoral showdown.

KDM’s shift could redraw Sabah’s power balance, influencing coalition talks and voter alignments in the next general election.

The realignment may weaken GRS’s hold on Sabah, give smaller parties a louder voice and force national parties to reconsider their strategies in East Malaysia, potentially altering the outcome of the general election.
