Push for Tougher Child Protection Laws

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has warned that Malaysia’s current legal framework does not go far enough to shield children from abuse, neglect and exploitation. He urged fellow MPs to show the political will needed to tighten penalties, close loopholes and introduce preventative measures such as mandatory reporting and education programmes. The call comes amid rising public concern after several high‑profile child‑rights cases have highlighted gaps in enforcement. Johari stressed that safeguarding children is a collective responsibility and that stronger statutes will send a clear message that violations will not be tolerated.
