Sabah Roads Get RM2.4b Boost

The federal government has earmarked RM2.4 billion for road projects in Sabah under the first rolling plan of the 13th Malaysia Plan, marking a decisive shift towards improving Borneo's lagging transport network. The funding will focus on key corridors that link interior towns with coastal ports, cutting travel times and opening new markets for the state's agricultural producers. By upgrading routes to tourist magnets such as Kinabalu Park, the investment also aims to lift visitor numbers and stimulate hospitality businesses. Safety is another priority; many Sabah roads are narrow, prone to landslides and accidents, so modern standards will be introduced to reduce fatalities and encourage private sector confidence.
