Penang’s state government has set an ambitious target to roll out 600 electric vehicle charging bays across the island by 2030, a move announced on April 30 by the Penang Transport Authority. The plan will see new fast‑charging stations installed at malls, parking decks and highway rest stops, backed by RM200 million in funding and incentives for private operators. By expanding the charging network, officials hope to address range anxiety, spur EV sales and cut the state’s transport‑related carbon emissions. The rollout will be phased, with 150 bays ready by 2025, and includes a push for renewable‑sourced electricity to power the stations.
