Parliament Moves to Split Attorney General Role

The government has introduced a constitutional amendment bill that would carve out the duties of the Attorney General from those of the public prosecutor. The proposal aims to create two distinct offices, each with its own mandate.
If passed, six existing articles would be revised and two new articles added to enshrine the separation. Lawmakers say the change will bolster checks and balances, ensuring prosecutorial decisions are made independently of political advice.
