Border Fencing Plans Target Illegal Jetties

The General Operations Force, acting through the National Security Council, has announced a request for funding to erect high‑security fencing around 69 illegal jetties that pepper the Malaysia‑Thailand frontier. The move aims to curb smuggling, human trafficking and unregulated trade.

Officials estimate the project will cost several hundred million ringgit and expect construction to begin within months, pending approval. The fences will be equipped with surveillance cameras and patrol posts, creating a tighter seal on the porous border.
