Year 4 exam aims to aid students

Education Minister said the new Year 4 assessment is introduced as a diagnostic tool, not a replacement for the longstanding UPSR or PT3 exams.

It will be administered nationwide at the end of primary year four, with results feeding into a broader support framework, gathering data on pupils’ strengths and weaknesses to tailor interventions and resources where they are needed most.

Parents and teachers will see a clearer picture of each child’s learning gaps early on, helping them seek timely help before high‑stakes exams, and for students, potentially easing exam pressure.

By providing early diagnostic data, the Ministry can allocate resources more efficiently, design targeted remediation programmes, and monitor progress, ultimately improving overall educational outcomes and reducing disparities across schools nationally.
