Zelenskyy Seeks New Middle East Allies

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy touched down in Amman on Monday, signalling a fresh diplomatic thrust into the Middle East. The visit follows Kyiv’s recent defence pacts with Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and aims to lock in Jordan as another security partner. In talks with King Abdullah II, Zelenskyy will discuss intelligence sharing, joint training and possible arms deliveries, while also courting Jordan’s influence in regional forums. The move underscores Ukraine’s strategy of widening its coalition beyond Europe, seeking political backing, logistical routes and new sources of military aid as the war with Russia drags on. Both sides see the partnership as a chance to counterbalance Iranian influence and to showcase Jordan’s role as a stabilising force.
